Registration for the 2017 International Radiance Workshop is open via the University of Oregon Ticket Office until July 31st, 2017 after which a $50 late registration fee will apply. Pricing is as follows:

Traditional 3-day Radiance Workshop:

Please note that the Eclipse Viewing and Hands-on Training are for workshop attendees only. These options are added during Step 2 of the workshop registration process via the UO Ticket Office website.

 

Hands-on Radiance Training

The training is split into two four-hour sessions, the first of which will introduce Radiance text-form basics and syntax while progressing toward modeling and simulation of a standard point-in-time daylighting model, including point-analysis and HDR rendering. The second session will delve into a more advanced daylight coefficient simulation approach for calculating the IES LM-83 annual daylighting metrics Spatial Daylight Autonomy and Annual Sunlight Exposure.

The agenda is as follows:

Block Topic
1 Modeling for Radiance Introduction to text-form Radiance, the syntax for geometry and material definition, and the basics of the command-line environment.
2 Navigating Radiance Assets Modeling geometry with third-party 3D modeling software (SketchUp, Rhinoceros). Exporting and model organization. Generating additional assets such as sky definitions, point analysis grids, setting up views for HDR renderings.
3 Simulation Running point-analysis and view rendering simulations.
4 Exercise #1 Exercise running a pre-made daylighting model, and if time allows a model of your own making.
Lunch Break
5 LM-83 Metrics and Simulation Approach Introduction to LM-83 metrics (sDA, ASE) and their implementation via Radiance simulation and script-based automation.
6 Modeling for Annual Simulation Using previously covered modeling techniques to set up daylighting models for annual simulation based on the daylight coefficient method and incorporation of blinds operation.
7 Breakdown of Annual Simulation Workflow and Data Visualization Unpacking the Radiance tools required to execute the daylight coefficient method and an introduction to its integration with custom scripting and data visualization.
8 Exercise #2 Exercise running a pre-made daylighting model through the LM-83 annual simulation workflow, and if time allows a model of your own making.
